Assignment and licence
Publisher

You can enter into a verbal or written agreement with a publisher about the publication of your work. In a verbal agreement, you can generally only permit the inclusion of an article in a specific issue of a specific magazine. You can also decide for yourself what you want to do with the article: no copyright is assigned or exclusive licence granted, as this can only be done in writing by means of a deed intended for this purpose. This depends entirely on the options offered by the copyright holder. Adding a publication to a repository is a form of disclosure and reproduction, which only the rightsholder is allowed to do. Inclusion in a repository doesn't mean the copyright in the publication is lost. This doesn't automatically put it in the public domain. Third parties who want to use the publication must obtain permission, unless one of the exceptions permitted by the Dutch Copyright Act applies (such as quoting or copying a work for one's own use) or the publication can be used under certain terms and conditions of use.
