A contract reflects the arrangements between 2 parties. Publishers usually have a standard agreement for publishing your material, but that doesn't mean changes can't be made. Be clear about what you want and ask your publisher to include it in the contract. It will often be a matter of negotiation, but you are certainly not obliged to simply sign a standard agreement. SURF has developed an alternative to the publisher’s standard agreement: the licence to publish.
The templates published by SURF are intended as examples and are made available for information purposes. Always consult a lawyer if you want to use a template so that they can assess whether the template is suitable for your situation. SURF accepts no liability for any damage caused by the use of one of the templates.
