What is web scraping? And do I need to ask for permission when I want to collect data through web scraping?

Copying
Research

Web scraping uses software to automatically read, copy and store certain information on websites in a separate database.

Sometimes web scraping can infringe a website's copyright. If the information on the website is protected by copyright, reproduction and disclosure of this information is an infringement. Web scraping may also be prohibited under database rights.

If you want to start web scraping, it is therefore wise to check in advance whether the data you are targeting can be used freely. On some websites, this is described in the terms and conditions of use. You should therefore always read these terms and conditions of use or request permission from the relevant website before you start.
